Piece of Paper
02:53
|
|||
Spectator first on the scene,
Quick grab me a paper!
What he says makes no sense at all.
But someday, it just might
It just might!
Words get stronger in written form.
They just might last, they just might.
People of the town saw it different.
Typhoons battle ships at night.
Ships at night!
Dictator, last on the scene,
Pulled up his black boots tight.
Stuffing his fortune into duffel bags.
You can’t trust people.
And that ain’t right
That ain’t right!
Helicopters falling from the clouds
Blast the morning light bright.
Legions of Liberation
Missed by seconds
The chance to make things right
To make things right!
As every tin-pan tyrant never learns,
The capital falls without a fight
But when those dreams of posterity set in,
Everyone’s got him in their sights.
In their sites!

You're On Your Own
03:08
|
|||
You’re on your own
And you’re turning like a feather
Inside a storm
And you’re hoping for a tether
Her eyes are fixed
And they’re playing on your conscience
The screen is lit
And it’s filling you with nonsense
Your skin Your bones Your body is a prison
You count you hope you’re waiting for the schism
The world is flat
And the ocean is a river
There is no time
To watch a flower whither
The sun’s a star
But it burns like any other
Our ancestry
I call the sun my brother
Your skin Your bones Your body is a prison
You count you hope you’re waiting for the schism
Never die
You’re gonna live forever
You’ll become light
And then you’re off to meet your maker

I Have To Cry
02:11
|
|||
Hello it’s good to have me around
Back from the lost and found
I have to cry
When you turn away like a tide
Leaving the ocean dried
I run and hide
Everything is everything
But when I’m alone
That’s not enough for me
You’re you and I am me
But when we’re apart
It feels like there’s no one
Within atoms break apart
Reactions stop and start
I couldn’t see
Without light from exploding stars
Everything moves apart
Where would I be?
Everything is everything
But when I’m alone
That’s not enough for me
You’re you and I am me
But when we’re apart
It feels like there’s no one
Tell me where to begin again
Copy, paste, resend
There’s nothing to find
If you try to retrace your path
Count it with higher math
You’ll get left behind
Everything is everything
But when I’m alone
That’s not enough for me
You’re you and I am me
But when we’re apart
It feels like there’s no one

Rebuild Me
03:34
|
|||
June’s green growth
Is turning to late summer brown.
The highway’s disgorged tourists
They’re living back in town.
I’m sitting here in bed.
Wondering where I put me.
Could you help me please?
With the arguments I need
To rebuild me
Another day down
I got everything done.
Checked off the list, I see.
Time to go downstairs and watch TV.
We don’t have intimacy – we’ve got TV.
It’s not a problem with you.
It’s just my memory.
I just forgot where I put me.
Sun down,
My favorite part of the day.
But tonight, I feel unguarded
And I can’t ignore my fears.
They mostly involve
My face into the mirror,
Being forgotten without tears.
Buried by the years.
Forgotten without tears.
People are waking up
All over this city.
All they need to come alive
Is some toast and a cup of coffee.
Others like me, they need a universal shop of reasons
So they don’t dissolve between the seasons.
They need a reason
To rebuild me.

The Cave
03:38
|
|||
He met his lady at a late age
In years and in history.
Deserts to the east and west,
Cobblestone super-highways
Ending in one city.
But theirs was a city
Of black collapsed stone,
Bodies and bone,
And tribes and tribes
Of men with shortened lives.
And then in middle age,
His mind was a heavenly light.
The day he came out of the cave.
The day he came out of the cave.
A few poor souls they gathered around
At the foot of his rocky hill.
Dancing and shouting
Make us well,
Make us whole, bowing down.
The merchants poured in their spices.
They all poured in their gold
Into gaudy things
And sexy screams,
Fortunes dreams
And even ice cream.
When he reached them at his feet,
His rage was a heavenly might.
The day he came out of the cave.
The day he came out of the cave.
He started his preaching
In front of the meat-market square.
Shouting to give up the buck,
And clean up their dissolute lives.
The old men and their goons
Were offended by the sight.
They picked up stones.
Bottles were thrown.
He had to be dragged out by his wife.
And when he left the page,
None of this world seemed to turn out right.
The day he came out of the cave.
The day he came out of the cave.

The Finish Line
03:13
|
|||
Do you think that I am exempted
From the laws that bind us all?
Whenever I have attempted
To get myself free, to push back that wall
I can run out of my mind
But you can’t keep that pace
So now you’re falling behind
I’m going to win this race…
Knee deep and it keeps getting deeper
Down a river to a water fall
You’re cheap but I can be cheaper
Don’t have a quarter to give you a call
I can run straight out of my mind
But you can’t keep that pace
So now you’re falling behind
I’m going to win this race…
…to the finish line
When we started you were beside me
Shots rang and now you’re so far
I can run straight out of my mind
But you can’t keep that pace
So now you’re falling behind
I’m going to win this race…
…to the finish line
I can run straight out of my mind
But you can’t keep that pace
So now you’re falling behind
I’m going to win this race…
…to the finish line
The finish line
That’s where I’ll be

One Step
03:37
|
|||
1 step
From the porch onto the pavement
2 steps
Because you cannot wait
1 time
All the time there ever is now
2 times
Too many times you hesitate
Through the streets and down the alleys
North wind blows
Over the hills and through the valleys
Rain and snow
Pick it up and move it downstream
But where to go
Things move one-way and not another
Your time will go
Ohhhhh Your time will go
So you’ve just got to know
That like the river flows
So why not let it go?
1 bridge
What you need to cross a river
2 sides
You cannot stand on both
1 day
Something’s sure to finally happen
Today
Is good enough for me
Through the streets and down the alleys
North wind blows
Over the hills and through the valleys
Rain and snow
Pick it up and move it downstream
But where to go
Things move one-way and not another
Your time will go
Ohhhhh Your time will go
So you’ve just got to know
That like the river flows
So why not let it go?
1 step
From the porch onto the pavement
2 steps
Because you cannot wait
1 time
All the time there ever is now
2 times
Too many times you hesitate
Too many times you hesitate
Too many times you hesitate
Too many times you hesitate

The Heavenly Mentions Montreal, Québec
In February 2015 four rock junkies came together in a half burned-down warehouse progressively being crowded out by condos sprouting like saplings on the banks of the Lachine Canal in Montreal. Musical companionship and a comradery became a band, now called The Heavenly Mentions. ... more
